Update July 2013
The Greensand Trust’s ‘Working Woodlands Centre’ project aims to provide an integrated approach to our under-managed and under-utilised woodlands, providing opportunities for communities whilst protecting and enhancing these wonderful habitats.
The first phase of the project is now up and running, with the first part of the main Working Woodland Centre building in place, including the training and education facility with associated toilets, offices and a small car park. We have had several school groups and training courses already, utilising the fantastic Maulden Wood on our doorstep.
The ‘Woodland Enterprise Centre’, a series of workshop ‘incubator’ units for wood and woodland-related businesses, has also been constructed nearby. The units will help these businesses to get started and develop markets as well as providing equipment and volunteering opportunities in the conservation of local woodlands.
The Working Woodlands Centre will be a training and education centre, specialising in wood and woodlands, helping people of all ages gain skills and learn about woodlands and their management.
Delivery of future phases will be dependent upon funding and the requirement for significant highways improvements to be made. Whilst we cannot put a timeframe on the delivery of later phases, the Trust has committed to complete the project in line with its objectives as soon as it is feasible to do so. Until then we are sorry but the car park is only available for visitors to the Working Woodlands Centre and not the general public.
We would like to thank everyone for their support and help in delivery of this project given the challenges it has faced.
If you are interested in volunteering, making a donation towards the project, school visits, training courses or events please visit www.greensandtrust.org or call 01234 743666.
